Eurofighter Typhoon patch
Viking:
I developed a new version of my Eurofighter Typhoon
patch. The new version 7.0 is optimized for SP4.1. The
patch improves the flight modell, weights, fuel
load, weapons... and includes a modified Korea
campaign where you can fly the Eurofighter. It should be noted that I didn't test the patch with
the BMS.exe. Sp I can't guarante that the Patch works with
BMS! Installation guide is included in the readme
file.

BMS Cougar file
Jagstang heeft zijn stickfile aangepast aan de
nieuwe BMS versie> Jagstang hier over:
My thoughts about this build.
This is a funny one - the more BMS add the more I
can take out of my files because they are fixing
things in the exe that my files used to have to do.
This is great though because it allows me to do some
stuff which I've been playing around with for a
while but not had enough cougar resources to do
before. Some of these things are included in this
version, but there is more to come as I get chance
to try out my ideas.

28-05:
..... the story continues
Dat was even schrikken ......
toeval?
verdienen is.
Falcon 4.0? Wie het weet mag het zeggen. Frugals, ook meestal erg goed ingelicht verwoorde
het vandaag zo:

One thing I will say is that whoever has the license
has a lot to live up to and they damn well better do it
justice. If the speculation is correct and it is members of VO
then at least we know they have the talent and desire
to make something of Falcon. But let's hope that they also realise that BMS were
trying to achieve the same goal, a better falcon for
all of us. There is a lot of incredible talent in this community
and it would be a pretty cool thing to get it working
together for the benefit of all Falconeers. I'd pay for the results of that collaboration in a
heartbeat.

eigen mening. Jam:
Folks,
Let me begin by saying that Benchmarksims in no way
condones piracy of any kind, for whatever reason.
Indeed, many of us, as professional developers, are
affected by piracy each and every day, in the form
of wage cuts at best, redundancy and bankruptcy at
worst. As you may not know, piracy affects
developers more than it does publishers or
retailers. We developers do not have the luxury of
passing the buck, so to speak, on to others -- we
are at the bottom of the food chain. The financial
leverage of major retailers and publishers allows
them flexibility in this regard, usually in the form
of either reduced royalties paid out to indy
development houses, or wage reductions to in-house
developers.
Let there be no doubt, the situation at hand is
rather ironic -- piracy of a free product. We are
obviously not financially affected by this
particular form of piracy, however please be aware
that this site (and other Falcon sites), could
potentially suffer legal fallback and that is
something that must be avoided at all costs. Bottom
line is that, for whatever reason, only one site has
been singled out. Other sites have chosen to
continue hosting BMS 2.0 and are well within legal
boundaries until and unless they personally receive
a C&D, OR a public announcement is made by
either Atari or the new license holder.
Yes, it is rather unfortunate that the powers that
be chose this course of action, and yes, revenge
does come to mind, given that all previous "gray
area patches" were allowed a final release (RP, SP).
As you all know, our goal here at Benchmarksims was
very simple -- to improve Falcon, to move it
forwards as best we could, while respecting all
previous work that came before us as much as
possible. At a time when development had seemingly
stalled for the foreseeable future, we chose to rise
to the occasion and bear the community torch of free
development. LEGALLY. We had no agenda beyond this
one, unequivocal goal. Anyone who acuses us of the
contrary needs a serious head check. The infamous
word asshat comes to mind here. But I digress...
Many of you know that my "community development"
background comes from the Battle of Britain
Developers Group, which I joined a few years back
and as you all know is, just like Benchmarksims, a
group of developers who's only goal is to improve
their sim of choice, for free. We were never in it
for the money, and while several such opportunities
did arise during the course of the past few months,
we did not believe it in our best financial
interests to pursue them.
The current situation quite honestly stems from some
of the most unethical behavior I have ever seen, and
I have been running my own business for years and
thought I had almost seen it all. Not only were we
promised a free release, we were even promised carte
blanche, believe it or not. During that time
(several months), development obviously continued,
most of it bug fixing. It soon, however, became
clear that these promises were, to put it mildly,
just smoke up our ass. For the record, not ONCE were
we contacted by anyone, warning us that our work
would be in vain -- we would have gladly taken the
hint and stopped working towards an unreachable
goal. No, we were almost pushed to continue
working.
Now, it would appear that some new "entity" has
decided that it is in their, and the community's,
best interest to pursue the commercial avenue of
Falcon development. While I may not agree that there
is any money to be made in the current market, they
do. I ask you all to give them, like you gave us,
the benefit of the doubt. I do not know for a fact
WHO is really behind the events I spoke of above --
but I suspect that the truth will eventually become
clear. Until then, for all we know, this could be
the very best thing to ever happen to Falcon -- or
it could be the worst.
Finally, just a word of appreciation from us all, at
the many thanks and kind words we have received. You
can not know how much they mean, knowing that
atleast some of you have been able and to enjoy the
fruits of our labor.

27-05:
The story continues .....
Well, if the ViperOps people bought the rights to
develop Falcon 4, I'm not sure why people are so
angry right now. There's little chance Atari would
have allowed Falcon to keep being developed for free
out in the open like this. There would have had to
be some official agreement (that Atari could profit
from) made with a select group of individuals. If
ViperOps people were able to negotiate a deal where
BMS people were not, then that's tough luck. I guess ViperOps guys had the more attractive offer,
especially if they bought the rights with cold, hard
cash. Hard to compete with that. If they worked out
some other kind of deal, it must have been better
than the one BMS was offering. Seriously... either
BMS people were offering to work for free to release
patches for free (not profitable), or they were
offering to work for free and have patches released
for a profit via Atari or one of its distributors
(not likely), or they were offering to buy the
rights themselves or get exclusive rights to develop
some way, somehow. If the last option was the case, looks like they got
outbid. Too bad, but that's business. If any of the
other options was the case, ViperOps people still
outbid them so to speak.
I don't know how many people know what ViperOps is,
but assuming work has continued on their Falcon exe
in secret since their secret work was made not so
secret back when the FF group was formed (did you
get all that?).... well, they've probably got a
pretty killer exe right now. It sounded killer a year ago. G2I lost out. BMS lost
out. Whomever's upset about this needs to think to
themselves how we got to where we are right now.
Then they need to ask themselves if they could have
done things differently. Back when BMS was formed I said it wasn't a good
idea for a number of reasons. Perhaps I was wrong as
far as Falcon in general is concerned, but perhaps I
was right in terms of the time wasted on the BMS exe
which can no longer be developed. Perhaps it would have been easier on everybody had
people just kept their mouths closed and waited for
G2I's license to run out instead of everything else
that went on. The end result seems to be the same if
what people are alluding to is correct.
The ViperOps guys waited for G2I's license to run
out and then approached Atari. Perhaps they even
approached Atari before G2I's license had officially
run out. They had a better product than G2I could
give them, even with the help of BMS. Atari saw this
and decided not to release G2I's product. I guess
they had the right to do this too, otherwise they
could be sued by G2I. Perhaps G2I violeted its
contract with Atari somehow, who knows. I don't think anyone has a right to be upset with
whomever is taking over Falcon development now,
especially not if it's the ViperOps guys. You can be sure you'll be getting a kick-ass new
product, even if you'll have to pay for it. You
didn't really think Atari was going to just let BMS
release free patches for Falcon 4 forever and ever,
did you? I suppose they might have allowed it until a more
lucrative offer was made... and maybe one has been
made!!! Anyone who wants to get upset over that
needs to remember that they are not somehow entitled
to a Free Falcon.

26-05:
.... THE END
Dear Falcon pilots,
Given the situation at hand, BMS has every intention
to cease and desist all Falcon 4 development. We
have been forced outside of all legal boundaries,
and will therefore not be able to deliver a bug fix
for our latest work. For that, I apologize, even though there is sadly
nothing I can do about it. As you may imagine, I am
deeply disgusted by the current turn of events.
However, I simply do not have enough facts, and
refuse to spread rumors that can only lead to the
further collapse of this community. Let me finish by saying that I can not, and will
not, be held responsible for how other BMS members
choose to act in this regard -- it is their call and
their anger is TOTALLY justified.
Thank you all for your support -- it's been a blast,
and I hope that you will somehow be able to enjoy
our free product.

.......
Today, Mike Bradley was served via email a legal
"cease and desist" letter by Atari. It references
the distribution of BMS2.0 on our server.
We are preparing a response to Atari.
The letter demands that we remove BMS2.0 from our
server by June 1, 2004. We anticipate complying with
that demand.
Like I said, we are preparing to respond to Atari,
but based on the C&D letter, Atari has the right
to compel us to remove it.
We all have real lives, and will do all that we are
legally required to do. This hobby is not worth real
litigation over IP issues.
We will keep people updated, as we are able.

ontwikkelen is. Mad Dog over het theater:
The Angolan Theatre (4F4-AT) is a 96 x 96 campaign
(Korea being 64 x 64), that means double the
airspace, and stretches from Walvisbaai, Namibia in
the south up to the Cabinda enclave in the north of
Angola. 4F4-AT will represent two scenarios, the first based
on the 1965-1990 war between South African and
Cuban-led Angolan forces in the south of Angola.

De

Jam over de release
Dear Falcon pilots,
I suspect many of you have been anxiously awaiting
the fruits of our labor for quite some time now. However, trust me when I tell you that we, BMS
developers AND talented modelers, skinners, and data
gurus at Free Falcon, and others, have been waiting
far more anxiously than you have. F4-BMS 2.0
represents the culmination of 6+ months of hard
work. Hard work which, due to deplorable business
ethics at best, began teetering over the legal edge
just a few months ago. Suffice it to say, we have now been waiting close to
three months for something, anything, in writing
from the powers that be, and we can only assume that
this entity simply does not care -- a similar
situation the ETeam faced way back when. We have pleaded them to allow us just one, final
release -- which if not granted would mean throwing
away months and months of unpaid, free volunteer
work. We have been granted no such luxury -- nor
have we been denied it. While the situation was
initially rather bleak, further contacts with Atari
had proven very, very promising. So promising that
it was almost beyond belief -- and indeed since then
we have not seen a single word from them... The time has come, to release our work to you the
community, as always, for free:

Dr Stop over deze release:
The new "Speedpack" for the Stopworks Block 52
cockpit (Pilot and Non-Pilot) can be freely
downloaded on the site.
Features include the following:
--Higher FPS than any other pit available. Stopworks
trademark speed gets wicked fast with the new BMS
speedpack--a datfile written specifically to take
advantage of BMS 2.0's new features: FPS are boosted
to incredible new highs. --No more "tiling" effect (transparent cracks on
panels) when running Anti-aliasing, with any video
card. --Lightning fast 2D panning (No longer any pause
whatsoever associated with 2D panning). --Sayonara to the Microprose triangular needles! New
rendered needles and gauges replace all instances of
the hideous "triangle" needles NO OTHER F-16 pit
offers these rendered instruments. Best of all, the new rescaling feature can run this
"1600 x 1200" pit beautifully at any
resolution--1024 or 1280. Several "true res"
screenshots are available on the site for
comparison.

Falcon install
OK. I did it. I have written a "one click"
installation program that automatically installs
Falcon 4.0, the Falcon 1.08us patch, SP4, and BMS
1.03. It deletes any previous Falcon installation
(if it is in the default location), removes Falcon
information from the Windows Registry, renames
tacrdata.zip (twice), and deletes msvcrt.dll. Of course, the user must supply the original Falcon
CD as well as F4108US.exe, FalconSP4_Installer.exe,
and F4-BMS1.03-Setup.exe. When the installer is run, it performs a standard
installation using those files. The user is able to
watch the installation menus and progress as if it
were being done manually.
The program has only been tested on my ancient PC,
running Windows 98. I believe that it will work
properly on other platforms, but only time will
tell. The next step will be to test it on some other
PCs. Eventually, it could include some installation
options such as FF2, cockpits, etc.

Interview Cobracab/BMS
Hornet
So I understand it is not likely that G2I would
prevent any BMS work from getting released (as was
feared by some)... either because they (G2I) are not
in a position to do so or because they simply
wouldn't want to do this ?
Cobracab
Quite the opposite!! G2i (Claude specifically)
has supported us 100 percent. Hehe, does that sound
like a shocker?
..............
Hornet
You were in negotiaitons with Atari about
permission to release the version currently in in
the works. Are these negoiations still in progress
or finished ? How is it going / what was the outcome ?
Cobracab
As far as Atari is concerned, that relationship
is stricly confidential. But we will release at
least one more BMS version.
Hornet
You said "at least"... So do you *aim* to
continue work on Falcon4 after the next release
?
Cobracab
Of course :P Hehe, those are MY words, btw. the rest of the team
may not feel the same way. We'll just have to see
how it goes. Right now, we're just trying to get this release
out. That is 99.9 percent of our effort.

Hello Frugalites...
I'd like to share this if I may.
My baby brother Paul, lost his battle with cancer
and HIV on May 4th, 2004 at 4 PM DST. (GMT -6) He
had been diagnosed HIV positive in 1985 after a
blood transfusion during a surgery he had. In
November 2002, he started getting sick and finally
was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma on December 2,
2003. He had started getting chemo therapy, and
seemed to be improving for a while, but then started
getting worse, and then pneumonia was diagnosed on
March 15 of this year. Thats really enough of the
story.
I hope no one ever has to witness what I have
witnessed since November. The deterioration was just
overwhelming. Everyone here with children, please
TEACH and EDUCATE them from the earliest possible
age. I promise no one wants to witness what I
have... cause to put it bluntly: it aint
pleasant.
Whatever God you pray to, protestant, Jewish,
Catholic, whatever... please send a prayer to our
family and help us with strength to make it through
this trying time.
I would not be able to deal with this whole
situation if it weren't for my partner/lover/best

my God everyday that she is here for me. Thank you

04-05:
Stopworks freeware
Dr. Stop hierover:
Also, it's now possible to download free DDS pilot
skins that correspond with each squadron. (Harold
Renner kindly granted permission to edit one of his
high-res skin files to reflect the various helmets.)
My thanks to him. These skin files are freely available on the pilot
page. Here's a direct link: Pilots Page

02-05:
Chili theater
informatie.
