Frugals gaat door
Ok You Win
First I'd like to say that you bastages don't play fair.
Over the last day or so I have received a lot of mail including some very touching stories about what this site has done for people even including an averted suicide. Many have refused to accept a refund on their donations or subscriptions and there has even been around half a dozen new subscriptions and donations. The upshot is that the site will continue.
I'd like to share with you, why I decided to close (or who pissed in my wheaties) and likewise what has changed my mind. Things started to change in the lead up to the recent war, and when Hunters request for prayers thread was hijacked by people more interested in espousing their political views than showing respect and compassion for a friend I knew something fundamental to this site had been lost. Things basically went down hill from there with the first ever plonkings in 4 years, untill then no-one had ever felt the need to plonk another member of these forums, or if they had, it was kept private, as it should be. Then we had people bashing other sites leaving me torn between loyalty to my friends and loyalty to the readers. Then we had the sig wars, with people creating sigs that were designed purely as a poke at other members or sections of the community. People forming into factions when once this community was the only faction they needed. Then I start getting hate mail, and being accused of trying to steal and sell other peoples work. Then I find even in the F4UT mailing list some of the people that I have immeasurable repect and admiration for are coming under attack, this was the straw that broke the camels back. All through my time in the community I have tried to mediate between the various groups. I have always put Falcon itself above my membership of any group but here we are with the community still more interested in tearing itself apart rather than trying to build itself up. Archer summed it up perfectly when he said.

It was heartbreaking to watch. Add to that the already low spirits I have been in due to being laid off coupled with lack of sleep and it is very difficult to stay motivated.
So what changed my mind? Well the support from so many can't help but have an effect, particularly from those supporting my decision to close. Smegs posting the Iraqi Information Minister report about my drinking, had a big impact as it reminded me how much laughter this site has been responsible for (and how many keyboards and monitors have suffered as a result). Aragorns poetry (which made me smile) Posts like the one from Dogsbd, reminding me about the quality of the character of most of the visitors here. Peoples stories of the impact this site has had on them outside of Falcon reminds me that FW is bigger than Frugal. Then despite deciding I wasn't going to even look at the site before Monday I have found myself inexoriably drawn to it like a moth to a flame, showing me that I am as big an addict as anyone else. The final kicker was probably Peter Tsangs post saying that Falcon was old and dead, this awakened the spirit of the Falconeer in me, it may not have helped me answer the question of why I care so much about Falcon, but it did remind me how much I care about it.
I will be taking a little break, I'll still be around but I'll be cutting back to around 20 hours per week for a week or 2. And I will be restoring these forums to everything they were meant to be. This means that I will be shutting down threads and deleting posts that do not promote good will respect and enjoyment. And if that makes me a Nazi, well then Sieg bloody heil!! These forums exist to help people to enjoy their sims and each others company and I will do whatever it takes to ensure that is what they are used for. People that want to bicker, spread lies, engage in group vs group combat, can find somewhere else. Those that want to be a part of a family that shares a mutal respect and a love of flight sims, I will make damn sure that you've come to the right place.

Smoketrails
 Shark van het Duitse 31ste (mooie intro) heeft wat zitten tweaken in de Falcon config en een mooie smokepod ontwikkeld.

LAGO's Viper
 LAGO heeft al eerder van zich laten horen door de militaire toestellen in Flight Simulator 2002 uit te breiden met de F-16 en Tornado.
De ontwikkeling gaat door. Licht effecten is er een van. Ze zijn zeer mooi om te zien.
LAGO's Mathijs Kok over deze ontwikkeling:
Alle reflecties die je ziet zijn niet getekend maar worden berekend en voor elk soort licht (dag, nacht, bewolkt etc, 20 in totaal) zijn er andere berekeningen.
FS9X kent eigenlijk geen bitmaps meer, slechts textures die gemanipuleerd worden. In totaal kan dit toestel in een vrijwel onbeperkt aantal variaties gezien worden. Dit gaat heel ver, zelfs als de vleugel buigt worden er nieuwe schaduwberekeningen aangemaakt.
Als de piloot zijn visor omhoog doet moet de reflectie van de omgeving ook wijzigen. De wolken die er boven bewegen, moeten meebewegen in de reflectie.
Het is echt een hele andere techniek. We denken niet in bitmaps maar in effecten en DirectX commando's. FS gaat echt heel hard in dit opzicht.

 Fletch stuurde mij zijn versie van de Harrier en Tornado skins toe.
Vervang de bestaande bmp's met die van Fetch, en vlieg deze mooie skins.

21-05:
FS2003 uitgesteld
 Helaas moet ik jullie namens de organisatie mededelen dat het FS 2003 event voor 19, 20 en 21 september is uigesteld.
Bericht gekregen van het Aviodrome dat, door verschillende oorzaken, de nieuwbouw van het themapark vertraging heeft opgelopen en zeker niet de poorten zullen openen in juli 2003. De exacte datum is nog niet bekend.
Alle geplande evenementen zijn geannuleerd, zo ook het FS-event.
Helaas helaas is het dan toch uitgekomen. We waren er al bang voor daar er bijna geen bouwprojecten zijn die niet uitlopen. :-D
Wanneer het FS2003 evenement wél plaats zal vinden is nog een grote onbekende. Er zijn te veel factoren die meespelen en de organisatie moet zich eerst goed beraden over de situatie.
Meer zodra er zaken bekend zijn.

Opendag slaapplaatsen
De prijsper overnachting op Camping de Mlenhof is € 18,= per nacht en niet pps.
We hebben ook fietsen te huur.

There was a Marine deployed to Afghanistan. While he was there he received a letter from his girlfriend.
In the letter she explained that she had slept with two guys while he had been gone and she wanted to break up AND she wants her picture back.
So the Marine does what any squared-away Marine would do.
He went around to his buddies and collected all the unwanted photos of women he could find. He then mailed about 25 pictures to his girlfriend with the following note: I don't remember which one you are, please remove your picture and send the rest back!

RNLAF Solo Display skin
 Van onze buitenland reporter:
Van het Duitse 47ste sqaud meldt Viper dat er een 1024 res skin aan komt van de solo dislay kist van de Klu, met "lange" smoke trails.

Klu opendag
Het is al weer een tijd geleden dat ik wat te melden had, maar het nieuws is moeilijk te vinden, en ik ben weer druk met van alles en nogwat.
Voor de bezoekers van de opendag van de Konklijke Luchtmacht op vliegbasis Twente een tip.
Op nog geen 15 KM afstand, ligt de 5 sterren camping De Molenhof.
Hier hebben we voldoende plaats voor caravans, tentjes en andere zaken zodat je s'morgensvroeg vanuit je tent op de fiets langs minstens 1½ uur fileleed rijdt om vervolgens relaxed aan de opendag te beginnen.
Op de camping zijn vanaf vrijdag 16:00 uur het restaurant en cafetaria open, om lekker bij te komen van een indrukwekkende dag.
Kosten voor een overnachting all-in € 18,-. Gebruik van sanitaire voorzieningen, stroom en water zijn inbegrepen.
